VIVUS / DOMUM
Trubetskoy-Naryshkin mansion

27-29 November 2020
For just one weekend, the Trubetskoy-Naryshkin mansion in the center of St. Petersburg, full of secrets and mysteries dating back to Tsarist times, will open its doors to contemporary art.
Steadily, the exhibiton takes the shape of a greenhouse, promoting growth and development of everything that is inside of it. A small world - with greenery, magical creatures, microorganisms and magic - will only exist for three days. Seventeen young contemporary artists gathered under the roof of the mansion.
VIVUS / DOMUM can be considered both, a total installation and a site-specific project. A cracked pathway, carefully digging through the tendons of the trees. We are climbing. From room to room we find ourselves in an exciting new world. Here, we can meet a lion sailing to distant mysterious lands, a headless lady in a spectacular hat, a luminous statue surrounded by the silk photographs, and many other fictionally living objects. Inside the wet flourishing moss we find a cube made out of porcelain and concrete. The cube is fragile and durable, static and changeable. Turn right - there paintings of lanscapes that can remind one of the old masters but upon further examation are complemented by modern people, posing as mythological characters.
