Otherwise Normal, a group exhibition of works featuring an interdisciplinary selection of new media photography, installation, and sculptural works. The artists seek to investigate the boundaries of assimilation, gender, sexuality, and belonging through notions of cultural passing. Passing, in this context, refers to the inherent complexity of individual identity and the intersectional experience of our generation.
With Otherwise Normal, the artists come together to represent different facets of identity, mining from their own experiences while still focusing on important socio- political issues.
Virko uses portraiture and figurative work as a means to explore human perception and behavior. She creates works that stir feelings of discomfort and curiosity for her viewers, in the hopes that they will stop to confront the more challenging aspects of her subject matter.
